How does Salt Pots work?
Salt Pots Ceramic Studio is a paint your own pottery studio based in Saltaire, West Yorkshire. Come along and:
- Choose a piece of pre fired pottery (called bisque). I have a large selection from classic crockery to money boxes, novelty animals to photo frames.
- Paint away, asking me as many questions you like.
- When you have finished I will hand dip the pottery in glaze and fire it in my kiln.
- You then come back a week later and collect your pottery or I can post it to you at an extra charge.

About me and Salt Pots.....
Salt Pots Ceramic Studio is run by me, Kate, a craft addict, mum to Max and wife to Chris (he said I have to mention him!) I love painting pottery and thought Saltaire would be a brilliant place for a paint your own pottery studio, so Salt Pots was born in January 2012. I left a stressful office job to open Salt Pots and I am passionate about making my little business work. I just hope you think I do a good job and enjoy coming here.
I love painting personalised commissions and so if you don't have time to paint your own pottery, ask me to do it for you! I will have a go at painting anything. Here is some of my recent work

What we do
At Salt Pots Ceramic Studio I love hosting children's pottery painting parties. Why not do something different for your child's next birthday?
I have seating for up to 20 in two rooms and pottery painting packages and prices to suit all ages and budgets. I have no minimum numbers for childrens parties unlike other pottery painting studios.
Why not book a pottery painting party for a special birthday and I will supply invites, decorations and drinks. The party package also includes a personalised plate for the party girl or boy - I will have a go at painting anything your child loves on their plate - see some examples here.
You are welcome to bring a small amount of party food, a cake and arrange party games for after the painting.

I cater for adult pottery painting parties too.
If you'd like to get creative on a hen do my 20 seat studio is perfect for you and your hens. Bring a bottle or two of bubbly and have a relaxing couple of hours creating your masterpiece.
I can cater for other parties too so if you want a place to come with your book club, colleagues, friends or sports team, then just get in contact. I am happy to open in the evening for gatherings - ideal for more relaxing painting once the kids have gone to bed! Just contact me to enquire.
Pottery painting packages available from £15 per person for a minimum of 8 people. The price includes refreshments, pottery to paint, paints, glazing and firing. I also include in the price of any package a personalised plate for everyone to sign to remind them of the occasion.
Why not create a perfect and precious keepsake for a loved one or for yourself.
I can help you create plates and mugs with baby's foot and/or hand prints and record the name, date of birth and weight on the pottery too. All paints are non toxic, baby safe and wash out of clothes very easily.
You can either come to me in my studio in Saltaire or I will come to your baby group to get the footprint and then take the pottery away to personalise, glaze and fire. Then it can be collected within a week or I can deliver it back to your baby group by prior arrangement.
I also do hand and foot imprints in clay in the studio - prices start from £25 (unframed) and £35 (framed). The finished piece can take up to 4 weeks as the clay needs to dry out thoroughly and then be fired twice. Photos are available on my Facebook page (link on the homepage above)
Prices
Adult pottery painting party packages from £15 per person for a minimum of 8 people including refreshments (squash/tea/coffee), potteryto paint, paints, glaze and firing.
Childrens pottery painting party packages from £12 per person including refreshments (squash plus tea/coffee for adult supervisor), decorations, pottery to paint, paints, glaze and firing.
There is no minimum number for childrens parties unless it is a Sunday when I only open for pre booked parties of 5 or more.
Individual pottery items from £3.00*
Tea and coffee served at £1 per person. Cake served (subject to availability) between £1.50 to £3 per slice.
*A studio fee of £3.50 per adult or £2.50 per child is charged to cover cost of paints, glaze, firing and assistance. A £2 studio fee is charged for hand/foot print pottery. You can stay as long as you like and paint as much pottery as you like and will only be charged this fee once. The studio fee is included in all party package deals.
Where are we?
Salt Pots Ceramic Studio is based on the first floor of the gorgeous Butterfly Rooms gift shop, 73 Bingley Road, Saltaire, West Yorkshire, BD18 4SB. There is ample on street parking in Saltaire Village, a World Heritage Site which is worth visiting in its own right. Full of bars, cafes, independent boutiques and quirky shops and home to Salts Mill, which houses a huge collection of David Hockney paintings, you will not run out of things to do if visiting for the day. The studio is a five minute walk from Saltaire train station with regular trains running to Leeds (15 minutes away), Bradford (10 minutes away) and Skipton (20 minutes away).
There is no lift. If you have difficulties with mobility please contact me.
TERM TIME OPENING HOURS:
Tuesday and Wednesday 1.30pm - 5pm
Thursday to Saturday 10am - 5pm
Sunday open for pre booked groups of 5 or more
Monday CLOSED.
School holiday opening hours will be confirmed here a week in advance.
Booking is not essential but is recommended just in case the studio has been booked in advance for a party on the day you want to come. I advise people to call ahead before they set off in any case as I run Salt Pots on my own and sometimes do charity work on a mobile basis meaning I close the studio a little earlier than usual.

Mobile Studio
I offer a mobile pottery studio on Sundays and evenings for group bookings of 5 or more (subject to there being no bookings in the studio at the date of enquiry). I am happy to travel to you at a small extra charge for petrol (no charge within 3 miles of Saltaire). I will come with a selection of pottery, paints and brushes then when you've finished I will take your painted pottery away to be glazed and fired. You can come and collect the finished pottery from me at my studio a few days later or I can post it at a small extra charge for post and packaging.
This service is ideal if you have a large party of more than 20 that I cannot cater for in my studio or if you have a preferred venue. I welcome evening bookings from scout and girl guide groups.
